Satellite navigation systems are being blamed for directing thousands of cars through a quiet Somerset village. Residents in Barrow Gurney claim 10,000 vehicles a day are going through the centre to get to Bristol Airport. Drivers warned of sat nav thefts Friday 10th of March 2006
Drivers with satellite navigation systems are warned to remove them when not in use after a spate of thefts. More than 30 "sat nav" devices were stolen from cars in Southampton, according to Hampshire Police. "They are portable, small and new usually cost at least £200. Man jailed over sat nav kit theft Friday 10th of March 2006
A man has been arrested, charged and jailed within two days of stealing a satellite navigation kit from an ambulance, police say. Michael Shaw, 19, of Hull, was jailed for four months by Beverley magistrates on Wednesday after admitting theft, burglary and possessing cannabis. Free property marking sessions have been organised for satellite navigation systems following an increase in thefts of the devices in Worcestershire.
